With a new group of Beginners starting at riversMEET in Autumn 2017 we reintroduced the zipped applique cushion cover workshop and had some great results in the first session

And our 2016 'Beginners' are now officially 'Improvers', and tackling some more complex techniques to extend their repertoire: quilted table mats and patchwork.
It’s lovely to see how quickly beginners can progress when they have the chance to practise in a relaxed group. The zipped appliqué cushion covers look like a great first project because they introduce useful techniques while still producing something practical. Moving on to quilted table mats and patchwork sounds like a natural next step for the more experienced group. I also like the idea of giving people a clear progression from “Beginners” to “Improvers” rather than trying to learn everything at once.
